Loreto Toorak is thrilled to announce that our very own Sue Burke, Assistant Head of Visual Art, is exhibiting her art at the Hellenic House Project, George Calombaris’ new restaurant.
Sue: “The suite of mixed-media artworks, installed in the restaurant, were created during an art residency on the Greek island of Skópelos. The works are connected by the word Philotimo, a distinctive quality of human virtue that is embedded in Greek culture and permeates the diaspora. It was a privilege to experience the depths of this rich ancient culture and be able to share it with others, but even more important, to exhibit the work alongside my very talented art student is the real joy.”
Sue’s Philotimo Collection will feature alongside artwork by Year 12 student Jorja at the restaurant.
Jorja: “This artwork was designed as part of a wall mural in the new Greek restaurant. The artwork pays homage to Greek mythology and culture through its depictions of Greek Gods and Goddesses, as well as traditional Greek motifs respective of our heritage. Spanning over two levels, the work was designed to connect the entry foyer on the ground floor to the restaurant on the first floor. Painted in a contemporary line work style, I incorporated a monochromatic colour pallet to compliment the themes of the restaurant and assist the contemporary narration of the Greek taverna.”
The Loreto Toorak community is extremely proud of Sue and Jorja for this achievement.
