Alumnae Spotlight: Caitlin Chiam Inspires Year 12 History Students
At Loreto Toorak, we maintain strong connections with our Alumnae, and it is always inspiring when they return to share their knowledge and experiences with our current students. Recently, we had the privilege of welcoming Caitlin Chiam (2019) as a guest in our Year 12 History Revolutions class.
Whilst a student here, Caitlin developed a passion for the French Revolution, with a particular interest in the role of women during this pivotal period in history. As a university student, she went on to do a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in History and French studies. For her Honours degree, she wrote a thesis under the supervision of Dr Charlotte Millar (UniMelb) and with the support of Emeritus Professor, Peter McPhee.
Caitlin is currently travelling overseas and kindly agreed to join the Year 12 History Revolutions class via Teams. Her presentation revealed a wealth of information highly relevant for our students. She spoke with us about gender, visual culture, French language and mythology, explaining the changing depictions of Parisian working women over time.
We are immensely grateful to Caitlin for her generosity in sharing her expertise and experiences with us. Her presentation not only enriched our students' understanding of history but also demonstrated the lasting impact of a Loreto Toorak and the value of lifelong learning.
