2024 World Refugee Day
Today is World Refugee Day, a moment to reflect on the plight of millions worldwide. The UN estimates that there are around 120 million people who are forcibly displaced, fleeing persecution, conflict, and violence.
In the spirit of the Mary Ward family’s global commitment to supporting the rights and dignity of refugees and asylum seekers, we pause to pray and commit ourselves to action for justice. Pope Francis reminds us, "Whoever welcomes a refugee welcomes Christ. Let us pray that refugees fleeing from war or hunger, forced to undertake journeys fraught with danger and violence, may find welcome and new living opportunities."
