Wednesday Sport brings together the Year 6 cohort for a series of sporting activities that encourage students to take risks, learn new sports, and get out of their comfort zone.
Throughout Term 1 we focus on learning sports, including T-ball, European Handball, Soccer, and Australian Rules Football. In Terms 2 and 3, students then have the opportunity to participate in District Sports, with many trying out new sports and making friends while competing against other schools.
In Term 4, students focus on leadership and teamwork by participating in activities such as bubble soccer, cheerleading, and team-building games.
Many of our Year 6 students from last year shared that the Wednesday Sport sessions were one of their favourite memories of being a student at Rathfarnham.
“My favourite thing about Year 6 was Sport every Wednesday afternoon because you usually have at least one friend in your group and it’s a great opportunity to make friends from other schools. I also really liked the fact that it gave us the chance to trial new sports I wouldn’t normally play like European handball, soccer and cricket.”
Olivia (6 Blue, 2022)
“My favourite memory at Loreto Toorak is the Wednesday Sport Program. I wasn’t all that good at some of the games we played, but all my friends cheered me on and made me feel like nothing was impossible.”
Grace (6 Green, 2022)
We look forward to another great year of Wednesday sport for our Year 6 students this year.
